What Is The Sullivan Chamber Of Commerce?

The Sullivan Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary partnership of many individuals, organizations, businesses, and professional people, working together to build a healthy economy and to improve the quality of life in Sullivan, Missouri.

As we work to accomplish this goal, the Chamber of Commerce must wear many hats: tourist information center: business spokesperson: economic counselor and teacher: activities coordinator and public relations practitioner.

Simply stated, the Sullivan Chamber of Commerce is individuals, business leaders and professional people working together to make Sullivan a better place for everyone to live and work.

The Chamber's mission statement for 2009 is: "The Sullivan Area Chamber of Commerce works towards the development, advancement and prosperity of the area's businesses and to enhance our community's quality of life through civic, cultural and educational organizations." The Chamber has also set it's goals for 2009 which includes: To create and maintain a functional webpage, form an active Ambassador Club, begin a "Business Helps" program, and to build a better relationship with the City of Sullivan. The Board of Directors also set these goals for the Executive Director-To form a Chamber to Chamber Network with surrounding Chambers (round table meetings quarterly), Obtain training for office staff (i.e. Accounting, Quickbooks, etc.), and to form a welcome committee for new businesses. Who Are Our Chamber Members?

Sullivan Chamber of Commerce members are businesses, organizations, and individuals concerned with the socio-economic climate in Sullivan. They have joined together because they know they stand a better chance of getting things done when they speak as one voice.

In 2005 the Sullivan Chamber of Commerce had 303 members. This is over 70% of the registered business in Sullivan as well as nearly 35 individual members, non-profit organizations, schools, and churches.

Who Leads The Sullivan Chamber Of Commerce?

The Sullivan Chamber of Commerce is run by its members. Each year, they elect a twelve-member Board of Directors that determines policies and set goals. Typically, four board members are elected to serve a three year term each year. A President presides over all Board meetings.

The Sullivan Chamber of Commerce's day-to-day activities are handled by a professional Executive Director and one office assistant. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Members often become involved in Chamber activities by working on committees for events held throughout the year. Members are sometimes called to assist in fundraising activities throughout the year.
